About the BIG Summer Read
The BIG Summer Read (BSR) encourages young readers 4-12 years to read and engage with their local libraries over the Australian Summer holidays in December and January.
Join the challenge and enjoy this Summer with fun competitions and a chance to win the milestone prizes as you read. You could also be in the running to win the fantastic grand prize, the adventure pack vouchers to Melbourne Aqua Park, Bounce and Goanna Golf (Dingley).
From 1 December 2025 until 31 January 2026, participants log their reading activity to go in the draw to win great prizes.
The BIG Summer Read is presented by Public Libraries Victoria and Greater Dandenong Libraries.

Borrow
Read books over summer and log them on ReadBooks. You can also collect a paper tracker from the library to record your reading.
Read
For every 5 books or 5 reading days you read and log, collect a milestone reward from the library and get an entry into the prize draw.
Milestones
Read 5 books or for 5 days - collect a sticker at the library.
Read 10 books or for 10 days - collect a colour pencils at the library.
Read 20 books or for 20 days - collect a bookmark at the library.
Read 40 books or for 40 days - collect a sticker at the library.
Read 60 books or for 60 days- collect a library bag at the library.
Win
Go into the draw to win some great prizes.
Prize winners will be notified and prizes awarded at our finale event at Springvale Library.
Key Dates
Monday 1 December - BIG Summer Read program begins.
Saturday 31 January 2026 – Reading log entries close at 9pm.
Saturday 14 February 2026 - Closing Performance and Prize Finale Presentation at Springvale Library, 2pm-4pm. (Registration required)
