Freelance (DVD)

Freelance DVD

Freelance is a fun action movie that seamlessly blends an entertaining story with well-timed humour. The film's dynamic action sequences keep you on the edge of your seat, while the clever humour adds a delightful touch to the overall experience. The three main characters, John Cena, Alison Brie, and Juan Pablo Raba are entertaining, and their interactions bring an extra layer of enjoyment to the movie.

The film centers on Mason, a former special forces operative stuck in a boring office job. He hesitantly takes on a freelance gig to bodyguard journalist Claire during a dangerous interview with a ruthless dictator. When a military takeover erupts, Mason and Claire are forced to work together to escape the war-torn country.

The story was interesting and oddly believable, which is rare for an action movie. Unlike many films in the genre, it didn’t rely on immature dialogue thrown in between the fighting, damaging, killing, and gun battle sequences. This movie had humour as well as an interesting story.

However, there were moments where the characters should have died, yet they didn't. Also, "Claire's" and "The President's" clothes never got dirty. She rolls in the dirt after falling off a horse, he walks through a jungle and a cave, yet his white suit never seems to get a stain, nor does her dress.

I do have one major objection: the "sexy" scene where the three main characters emerge from outdoor showers nude. It felt ridiculously inappropriate and completely unnecessary.

Overall, Freelance is an enjoyable action movie. It was also great to see how John Cena has evolved and matured as an actor. He really made his character human - both heroic and flawed.

Freelance is light, entertaining, and a mindless popcorn flick that's perfect for a casual watch if you're looking for some action and laughs.
