Gimme Danger (Kanopy)
This documentary by famous director Jim Jarmusch is following musical career of the band the Stooges. Jarmusch created a warm personal story showing all the challenges and hardships they have endured as a group and individuals, on their path to fame. Incredibly influential and hugely relevant for their time, they never achieved financial security other music bands have, mostly, we find out, because they were not prepared to compromise and get commercial with their music.
Gimme Danger is full of the original footage from their performances, private photos, and personal accounts of the band members themselves and people close to them. Very touching are the parts in which Iggy Pop talks about his parents and his early years he spent living in a caravan. His parents were very modest people but gave him love and support throughout his life, and even more so when he was recovering from his addiction. He also remembers when David Bowie visited him there with all the media coverage, that caused huge interest in his small Midwest hometown.
Jarmusch who belongs to a similar generation, gave us warm and intimate portrait of Iggy Pop and his band mates as complex artist who put their music before anything else. If you love the Stooges, you will enjoy this beautifully made film full of amazing stories and even more amazing music.
