I Love my Dad
Patton Oswalt and James Morisini play a father and son who have a complicated relationship. After Franklin (Morisini) blocks Chuck (his father played by Oswalt) on social media, Chuck desperately resorts to catfishing his son Franklin. Things naturally go out of control, as Chuck is having difficulty juggling his real life and masquerading as Becca (Franklin’s online girlfriend) and things comically take a turn for the worst.
This movie is really clever, funny, touching and also at times- frustrating. Seeing Chuck go to desperate measures to keep in contact with his son is cringeworthy.
I really liked this film because it does show the extreme lengths people will go to in order to communicate with an estranged loved one. I also laughed quite a bit at times and covered my eyes with embarrassment for Chuck and Franklin’s characters.
A really cool trivia fact about the film is that James Morisini who plays Franklin, also wrote, and directed the film. Apparently, it is based on a real-life situation that happened with the real-life James and his actual father, making the film even more authentic.
Highly recommend this film for a movie night with popcorn and a blanket.
