I Will Judge You by Your Bookshelf

I Will Judge You by Your Bookshelf by Grant Snider

This book was in the Art and Culture collection at the libraries, caught my eyes by the front cover, it has about 15 “I confess” sections about books in general, and the definitions were not only hysterical, but they were also insightful, honest and spot on, sort of speaking for all of us.

I’m not being a fan of graphic novels but the illustration in this book was incredible, makes me laugh, think, and agree with every confess I read as if it is talking about our feeling, and the way of how we judge our family members and friends though their books, what they read and interested in on the shelf.

It is so very relatable to fellow book lovers and off course to myself. Some of us surround ourselves with books we collect, decorate and inspired by, at the end we love books. The stage of the reader in page number nine was amazing with the illustration from discovering books and passing books on to the next generation. We learn to read at an early age, and as we grow older, we shed our beloved books for new ones.

Grant Snider talks about the highs and lows of reading, the evolution of a reader, and the ways to organise the bookshelf. The artwork is so very clever, and it accompanies the poems so well, it is fun and entertaining in a thoughtful way.

This book is funny, beautiful, creative, and instructive. The illustrations are just like comic strips. It will make the reader interested more in comic books, kept me going, often seeing myself and others in the book, and we do judge people by their bookshelf, or rather empty shelf, it is a question.

I recommended reading this entertaining book anywhere and everywhere as Snider has pointed out reading in a social situation, and into appoint that confused fiction with reality. You will also appreciate this collection and relate to it on every page. Grant Snider’s cartoons in this book tickle the intimate corners of the mind, especially when expressing the feeling by “I like to sniff old books”.  Now, I started to carefully display my favourite books on my shelf considering that everyone will judge me by them.
