Iceberg by Claire Saxby

Claire writes narrative non-fiction with great skill. The life cycle of the iceberg is described beautifully in Iceberg including the changes throughout the seasons. It is captivating and fills the reader with the wonder of nature. The language is musical and fabulously descriptive. The illustrations add a magical quality.

‘If this world looks empty, look closer’…

Claire and Jess urge the reader to really think and learn about the wonders of this environment. The description of wildlife - under the water, in the sky and otherwise hidden - adds a variety of characters to the story.
This book would be best appreciated as a shared story.  An adult discussing this story with a child would help to reinforce the ideas of responsibility, conservation, and gratitude for our planet.  At the end of the book there is information about global warming to lead to further discussion and activities.  This book is not only for children.

Each time I read Iceberg, I notice something new, something remarkable. It is a hypnotic book.
