The Ideal Palace (DVD)
The film The Ideal Palace is based on an incredible true story about a country postman Joseph Ferdinand Cheval.
While Cheval was on duty delivering mail in April 1879, he tripped on a large stone. He was amazed with its unusual shape. Collecting other stones in the area, he had an idea to do something very extraordinary: to build a palace only with his bare hands and heart for his precious and beautiful daughter, Alice.
In 1912, this amazing palace was finally completed after 33 years of hard work. Cheval’s palace, as an historically classified monument, is an example of naive art, Egyptian and Hindu architecture and mythology.
Probably, if you are somewhere in France, this movie may inspire you to visit a village named Haunterives where the palace is located.
This remarkable film features a brilliant actor, Jacques Gamblin, as Joseph Ferdinand Cheval.
