Maggie's Going Nowhere

Maggie’s Going Nowhere by Rose Hartley

I am always on a lookout for an Australian author and stumbled across this debut novel by Rose Hartley. As far as debut novels go, Maggie’s Going Nowhere, is a pretty good one. The story revolves around Maggie, a woman whose flippant outlook on life comes to a bit of a head when she suffers a series of unfortunate events in a very short span of time. After a lifetime of avoiding work, and trouble, she is forced to get her life together as her mother disinherits her and her relationship ends.

Maggie is a fierce and funny character and while at times irritating and irresponsible, you keep on rooting for her to win. The book is a great read with many funny bits and lots of “yes!” moments. Definitely worth the read, or in my case a listen. The audiobook is read by Miranda Tapsell who does a great job narrating the book.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a giggle, however if you shy away from swearing, this is not one for you.

I always enjoy reading Aussie authors, and especially ones set in Melbourne with suburbs and landmarks that are familiar to me. Always makes the story more familiar.
