Mr. Einstein’s Secretary by Matthew Reilly
Hannah Fischer has an ambition to work for the great Albert Einstein. In 1919, she becomes not only his secretary but also a scientist, sister, and spy.
She experiences racism, which leads to the murder of both of her parents by right-wing extremists. Einstein takes her under his wing. Due to her Jewish background, she is persuaded to leave her home in Berlin and travel to the United States of America.
Hannah has an identical twin sister, Norma (called Oooma). She enrols in an elite secretarial college, where she meets the handsome Daniel Kessler. Daniel asks her if she would return to Berlin and spy for him. This begins an epic adventure where she encounters some of the most remarkable minds of the twentieth century. Along with Einstein, she meets Marie Curie, Niels Bohr, and other eminent physicists to discuss the merits of the theory of relativity, including E=mc².
Hannah then becomes entangled in the rise of the Nazi Party in 1930s Germany. She works as a secretary to Albert Speer and uncovers the German secret weapons plant—all while trying to stay alive. Spanning forty years, this is a tale of epic proportions.
As Einstein himself said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you need to keep moving."
