The Vincular Insurgency, a Warhammer 40,000 universe book following the Astra Militarum Gaunt’s Ghosts, is a standalone Gaunt’s Ghost book set shortly after the forming of the Tanith one and only. Colonel Commissar Ibram Gaunt and his ghost have been tasked as a peace keeping force in recently liberated world of Voltemand forced to remain and take over security for a backwater agricultural province and its capital, Vincula City. Insurgents stalk the streets, determined to cripple the Imperial forces within and disrupt their ability to assist the rest of the crusade. Though all is not what it seems with the insurgents a greater threat stalks with the insurgents better trained and armed than expected.
The Vincula Insurgency is a fantastic inclusion to the Gaunt’s Ghost books and as a standalone can be pick up and read without any knowledge of the other books in the series, though some knowledge of the characters and setting would only enhance the enjoyment of this book. I would gladly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in 40,000, and a must read for anyone who is already familiar with Gaunt’s Ghost books.
