Green Eggs and Ham

Green Eggs and Ham by Dr.Seuss

Green Eggs and Ham is a story about a nameless character with picky tastes, who refuses to eat green eggs and ham. Throughout the book, his friend Sam-I-Am persistently encourages him to try the dish, suggesting various places and scenarios where he might enjoy it. Despite Sam’s enthusiasm, the main character continues to refuse. Eventually, to get Sam to stop bothering him, he agrees to try the green eggs and ham and to his surprise, he discovers that he actually likes them. He thanks Sam and is happy to have found a new meal to enjoy.

I love this book because it was such a big part of my childhood. Reading it gives me a spark of joy. It’s a wonderfully silly narrative, I remember begging my parents to read it to me for a whole week straight. Sharing it with my cousins now shows me how much it continues to delight young children, and it will always be iconic.

Green Eggs and Ham is a book that resonates with both toddlers and parents. Many toddlers are reluctant to try new foods, while parents are constantly encouraging them to do so. The book is full of simple rhymes and big, colourful illustrations that keep children engaged. It’s perfect for beginner readers and a great tool for fostering a love of reading.
