A competition for young people aged 12-19

If you've got writing, art, design or video editing skills, you could be in the running to win prizes or have your work featured on a new youth library card.

With two different categories to enter, whether you use the library to read, study or just hang out, this competition is for you.

Stretch your creativity and register to enter one or both competition categories today.

When is it?

Entry submissions open Monday 1 July and close Wednesday 31 July, 11.59pm.

What can you win?

  • New, trending and popular young adult books.
  • Gift vouchers including JB Hi-Fi, Rebel Sports and Village Cinema.
  • Apple AirPods.

The competitions

There are two categories to enter, book review and design a youth library card.

Category one - book review

Review a book that you have recently read or listened to as an audiobook. This can be fiction or non-fiction of any genre.

What to do

  • Write a 30-80 word written review, or
  • Create a 30-60 second video review.

For video reviews:

  • Ask staff for permission if you plan to film in the library, before you start recording.
  • Make sure all people who appear in your video give you permission to upload and share.
  • Video must not exceed 40MB.

Category two - design a youth library card

Design a new library card. The winning entry will become the design for Greater Dandenong Libraries' new youth library card.

What to do

  • Draw or illustrate a library card design that appeals to ages 16-18.
  • All entries must be appropriate for all ages and contain no offensive content.
  • Submitted design must not exceed 40MB. If you're the winner of this category, we may request a higher resolution image later.
  • Image must be png file type.

How to enter

Submit your entry and enter all the information requested. Ensure you upload your design in the section provided and give permission to City of Greater Dandenong Libraries to publicise your work.

Terms and conditions

  • To be eligible for entry, entrants must be between the ages of 12 and 19 and have a membership of Greater Dandenong Libraries.
  • All entries must be the original work of the entrant.
  • Though we will attempt to include all valid entries, the library is not liable for missed entries.
  • The winners of the competition will be informed within 6 weeks after the close of the competition.
  • Consent from a legal guardian will be required for participants' photos and names to be used in promotional material.
