Don’t worry, Felix by Yohann Devezy
Felix found a big red balloon on his father’s car before heading to his new school on the first day. This “balloon” followed Felix everywhere throughout the day and kept growing bigger and bigger, causing him trouble. It even stopped him from joining activities he usually enjoyed.
Is this a real balloon that children usually have fun with? No, the author cleverly used this balloon as a metaphor so we can visualize Felix’s worries and scares about his new school.
Fortunately, Felix’s father shares a helpful strategy with him, practicing deep breathing while pinching each of his five fingers. This technique helps Felix calm down and reduce his anxiety. It’s effective.
I love this story because it’s given us (everyone not just kids) ideas that we can use, approaches such as talking with others, taking a deep breath, and some other methods to set the “balloon” free.
This story reminds me of another book, A Huge Bag of Worries. Both books are excellent resources for helping children develop emotional skills and a positive mindset.
