The One by John Marrs
The One is one of my favourite thriller books, and John Marrs is one of my favourite authors. It is the first book in a futuristic thriller series, with each book exploring how technology has changed the world and what a way to start; I was hooked instantly.
The One is set sometime in the future, when a company’s invention has changed the way people view love. ‘Match DNA’ helps people find their soulmate by using DNA to identify your perfect match. This person could be older, younger, a criminal, the same sex or living in a different country, people no longer search for love; they subscribe to it.
The One explores this new future through five main characters. We follow these people on their journey of taking the DNA test, finding their match, and the consequences that follow. Some things are not as they seem, and the characters experience complicated situations and thrilling adventures.
I think this book is so great because it has a mix of everything: science fiction, romance, thriller and drama. It is an addictive read, with fun twists revealed along the way.
