All I Want for Christmas by Karen Swan
This is the first Karen Swan novel I’ve ever read, and I really loved the book.
Darcy is an art history student who has just broken up with her cheating boyfriend and moved to Copenhagen to finish her PhD studies. She lives with her friend Freja, and they are very close.
Love and celebrating Christmas are the last things on her list. However, when Freja sees that Darcy is feeling alone, she signs her up for an exclusive dating app and persuades her to agree to three dates, one of which just happens to be with the arrogant lawyer Max. He’s wealthy, intelligent, handsome and moody.
Not long after joining the app, Darcy is offered a job to identify an unknown portrait of a woman by a famous Danish artist. Max is a trustee at the gallery where the archives are kept, and it’s through him that she’s able to access and review material outside of work hours. This means she must go to his house to do so, as the material can only be released to a trustee, which complicates things between them.
Realising they’ll be working closely in hopes of solving this mystery, they agree to give up on dating. Darcy holds back because she knows that Max isn’t interested in anything long-term and is more inclined towards flings. Max holds back because Darcy is unlike the usual women he dates—she’s unpredictable and has a strong mind of her own.
Will Darcy find love?
Can she solve the mystery of the portrait?
I really enjoyed reading this book. It had romance, art, mystery and secrets. If you love romance and art, then this is a book I would highly recommend.
