Anatomy of a Fall DVD
Sandra Huller delivers a truly awe-inspiring and memorable performance in this award-winning psychological drama. A man named Samuel falls from the top of his house in the French alps, leaving his blind son, Daniel, as the only witness. His wife, German writer Sandra is under suspicion, as it is unclear whether this is a suicide or murder.
What I really appreciated about this film was how every aspect of the film kept you guessing about the truth. The film delves into several investigative modes as the police investigate the scene, the court examines the evidence and friends and even her own son begin to doubt Sandra’s story.
The complexity of the relationships in the family is also revealed to be a source of anger and blame between the couple. The tension peaks in a scathing monologue that Huller performs immaculately. By the end, I was left questioning what mattered more, the truth of the matter or what I believed to be the truth.
Whilst the film is mostly in French and some German, notably the most intense scenes tended to be in English which was welcome as an English speaker to understand the most dramatic moments fully.
