A beautiful, whimsical story about an old man who delivers books door to door and his friendship with a little girl he meets along the way.

Carl Kollhoff’s world is very small. He has never left his town and lives a very routine-driven life. His life revolves around books and the special customers he visits as he drops off their book recommendations. They’ve all become friends of sorts, and Carl has given them all literary monikers to fit.

As he gets to know Schascha, the little girl, his world opens up, as does the world of his customers.

I absolutely loved this book. I think it’s my book of the year and definitely in my top five. It is written so well, and the characters are just marvelous. They are all “flawed” in different ways but create such a wonderful tapestry of a little village.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a read that will make them smile.

The relationships that grow and improve because of one old man and one little girl are touching and so sweet. No one’s small acts are beyond improving the lives of others.
