Give Yourself Permission to Shine by Wendy Joy Anastasi
This is a lovely journey of a local girl who grew up in Springvale and her determination to not only change her life but also those she’s connected with, helping them live their lives to the fullest with health, balance and joy. She’s helped change so many lives with her forty years in the fitness industry. Wendy also shares her own growth in the field of fitness, mindfulness and finding balance in her life while living to the fullest.
Wendy is the oldest of five children, growing up in Springvale with four younger brothers to a single mum after her father walked out in the late sixties. She shares other family tragedies that helped form her determination for personal health and well-being, such as losing her two younger brothers in 1974 at a quarry near Burden Park.
She met her husband, another local boy from a Maltese family in Noble Park, Mario, when she was only seventeen. Together, they have worked in several gyms in the Narre Warren area and started their own fitness studio before Wendy embarked on her Pilates/yoga journey, including being part of wellness retreats and online wellness coaching.
This is such a lovely book to read as it feels like you’re sitting down with Wendy, having a conversation with her warmth shining through. She shares the benefits of different exercises, her natural/holistic health tips, as well as some of her passions such as sunsets and sunrises, walks, the elephants at Melbourne Zoo, travelling, and of course her own family.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in what it means to be healthy on all levels – mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
