Magpie

Magpie by Elizabeth Day

Magpie by Elizabeth Day is a real page‑turner. As some of the other readers on the blurb said, I also read it all in one sitting.

Not only is Magpie well written with great attention to detail, but it is also incredibly well constructed. Day manages to breathe new life into a story that readers may feel they have read variations of before: the ‘dangerous woman’, with an added bit of the ‘crazy interloper’ mixed in. Day constructs the three main female characters extremely well and keeps us guessing about what is true as she changes narrative voices throughout, before giving us a well‑constructed and unexpected twist at the end of the novel.

I really enjoyed it and didn’t want to put it down until I finished reading it. Always a good sign.
