Modern Asian Baking at Home

Modern Asian Baking at Home by Kat Lieu

Are you ready for some delicious and exciting recipes? Introducing Modern Asian Baking at Home by Kat Lieu. This excellent cookbook mainly includes sweets, with some savoury recipes and drinks as well.

If you’re just discovering the world of Asian treats, this book is the perfect place to start. The author describes ingredients in easy-to-understand terms, and many recipes are beginner friendly.

And if you are already an expert, you’ll enjoy the creative fusion recipes – like gochujang flourless chocolate cake.

Most ingredients are easy to find, and the recipes are aimed at home bakers. In contrast to Western-style baking, many of the recipes in the book do not require an oven. Some can be made in an air-fryer, and many in a steamer.

The recipes are also beautifully presented. The layout is lovely, and there are full colour photos for each recipe. I always find this a huge relief, because at least there is a goal for what your creation is meant to look like.

If you would like a preview of some of the recipes, you can check out the author’s Facebook group Subtle Asian Baking (Link), or the Modern Asian Baking website (link).

Here are some recipes that caught my eye the most:

  • Tangzhong milk bread five-spice cinnamon buns
  • Pineapple and coconut cream buns
  • Doryaki pancakes with anko paste
  • Miso basil naan
  • Vietnamese egg coffee
  • Lemongrass chai latte
  • Mango lassi with sago.
