Severance DVD
Prepare for a story that’s as full of mystery as it is of mind-bending science fiction in this riveting TV series directed by Ben Stiller, starring Adam Scott (of Parks and Recreation fame).
Severance follows the story of Mark Scout, whose job requires him to “sever” his work self from his home self. Because of this, he has no memory of his workday: his home self, or “outie,” enters the elevator at 9 a.m. and immediately walks out at 5 p.m. His work self, or “innie,” remembers only his time at work and nothing beyond it.
Scout is content with this life for two years, until his work bestie mysteriously disappears and his innie starts asking questions: Who am I on the outside? What exactly am I doing here? Most importantly, why do I need to be severed? Asking the same questions—only much louder—is new colleague Helly, who hates being an innie from the moment she starts the job. Together, they begin to uncover the many secrets their workplace is hiding.
This show drew me in with its incredible cinematography and outstanding cast; its many mysteries kept me watching. Adam Scott shines as Mark Scout, effortlessly portraying the subtle differences between “innie” and “outie” versions of the same person. His colleagues take a while to gel, but by the end, you’ll be cheering them all on. The finale is a breathless whirlwind that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last moment.
This is a truly unique show and well worth watching if you enjoy science fiction, thrillers, and a slow, steady build-up of tension with a satisfying payoff.
