Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
Sunrise on the reaping is a good YA book that has themes of dystopian societies and thrillers. It is a prequel to the Hunger Games trilogy that mainly focuses on the mentor of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the main characters of the Hunger Games. It dives deep into his backstory and what he was like before becoming a mentor and meeting Katniss and Peeta.
This story is good for people who like the Hunger Games books and if they want more on the history of Hunger Games society. It is also good for anyone who likes to read dystopian that can give a lot of symbolism to our own society. The book can be a bit intense in terms of its contents but overall, it is a good book that you can read even if you haven't read the Hunger Games books or seen the movies.
The book itself begins with Haymitch and as the story progresses, we meet more people from his past and learn how they impacted his life. If you have watched or read the Hunger Games trilogy then it can be exciting to find similarities between characters from the trilogy and characters from Sunrise on the Reaping and to compare Haymitch himself with how he is in the two different books. Overall, it is a very nice book to read in your free time, highly recommend.
