The winners of the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards (VPLA) have been announced, with the top prize, The Victorian Prize for Literature going to The animals in that country by Laura Jean McKay. In addition to receiving Australia’s richest literary prize, McKay’s debut novel – which takes place amid a pandemic that causes victims to hear the voices of animals – also received the Prize for Fiction.
