The Wonder of Little Things by Vince Copley
The book was published shortly after the author passed away. It is his testament to his whole life, from the government mission in South Australia where he grew up, to becoming a great Australian, playing both Aussie rules and cricket. His aim was to make life more bearable for his people, rather than stay in the poverty into which he was born. He never knew his father and rather idolised his mother. Later in life, he was ably supported by his wife, Brenda.
He discovered that it was the inconsequential matters that made things ‘tick’ for him. The story contains humour, humility and knowledge. His friend and confidante, Lea McInerney, helped him through his journey to become an Australian icon, told without bitterness or recrimination. None of this would have been possible without the support of those with whom he grew up, including his wife Brenda, later his children and close friends.
Although not a scholar, this book contains all his innermost thoughts and beliefs which he valued throughout his life. He justly deserved his AM, Order of Australia medal. He has justly been called by many a great Australian.
