The Worst Thing I've Ever Done

The Worst Thing I’ve ever done by Clare Stephens

Clare Stephens’s debut novel, The Worst Thing I’ve Ever Done, was a relatable and interesting read about cancel culture and online harassment.

When I chose this book to read, I was seeking something light and relatable, and this book certainly met those expectations. In a world where people’s opinions and actions are sensationalised and often misinterpreted, I feel that this timely book was a fascinating look into social media culture.

The main character, Ruby Williams, works for an online women’s website (which is biographical in the real world for the author) and, without thinking, writes an article that has far‑reaching consequences.

The fallout is immense for Ruby, with a persistent troll and a targeted smear campaign against her, and the story cleverly and engagingly crafts an interesting narrative about navigating public cancellation, with a few plot twists along the way.

This book is available both as an e‑book, e‑audio, and on the shelves.
