Bestselling author Nicola Moriarty has written a page turner in the domestic thriller genre You Need to Know. I was instantly hooked, the characters, varying storylines and interwoven mysteries create a highly engaging experience for readers.
You Need to Know is the story of Jill an elderly mother, her three grown sons and their wives and children. The story is told from varying perspectives and slowly we find out that each family member has their own secrets and life complications that they are carefully keeping from the rest of the family.
Interwoven amongst these varying perspectives is the unravelling of a car crash, which has occurred on the way to a family Christmas gathering, and as the book progresses readers try to decipher who has caused the crash and who has survived.
I found Nicola’s writing style intriguing, with the gradual unfolding of secrets and mysteries, which kept me engaged. I thought perhaps the varying perspectives might become confusing, but the book was easy to follow and I became invested in the characters, looking forward to finding out what would happen next.
The book does explore some sensitive topics such as addiction, betrayal, sexual abuse and family relationships. However, I highly recommend this novel, it is a great read and will keep you enthralled until the very end.
